Design and Development of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers National Forest Information System (CCFM-NFIS)
GeoConnections and the Canadian Forest Service (CFS) have finalized an agreement that will provide 3 years of funding and technical exchange/collaboration in support of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers National Forest Information System (CCFM-NFIS). Funding for the project is being provided through the Access Program of GeoConnections in addition to funding from the CFS, and CCFM. Directed through a Federal/Provincial/Territorial Steering Committee reporting to the CCFM, the National Forest Information System project aims to deliver information in a form readily accessible and usable by decision-makers in support of Canada's national and international forestry and related reporting obligations. The NFIS system will provide access to key forestry data and information, will be searchable through the GeoConnections Discovery Portal, and make use of the suite of standardized protocols and tools for data access, retrieval and display endorsed by GeoConnections. Provincial and territorial partners are working with CFS through the CCFM Steering Committee.
