Ocean Portal
GeoConnections and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) have finalized an agreement to provide funding and technical support to build the Ocean Portal, a national foundation for the marine component of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). The project is being supported through the Access Program of GeoConnections, with funding and contriubtions from DFO. Implementing this Portal ensures DFO's communication and inter-operability with other agencies that are building or planning to build geospatial infrastructure components. Specifically, the Ocean Portal will allow DFO to access data from external organizations, and to make its data accessible without DFO manual intervention. The new Ocean Portal will be searchable through the GeoConnections Discovery Portal, and make use of GeoConnections' suite of standardized protocols and tools for data access, retrieval and display.
