Canadian Geoscience Knowledge Network

An agreement between GeoConnections and the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) to partner in the development of the Canadian Geoscience Knowledge Network (CGKN) has been reached as part of the GeoConnections Access Program. The CGKN is an initiative of the National Geological Surveys Committee to make the geoscience knowledge holdings of the federal, provincial and territorial geological surveys of Canada more easily integrated, and to provide consistent, direct access to these data. With this agreement the CGKN?s Secretariat will receive $290K from GeoConnections in the 2001/2002, resulting is leverage of $1.4 Million in cash and in-kind funding from the GSC, provincial and territorial agencies and the Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI). The new funding will support projects involving: the National Bedrock Geology Database, National Surficial Geology Database, Toolkit for National Geochemical Database, and XML-based Data Transfer standards for mineral occurrence and geochemical data.
