Watershed, drainage project

Currently, a variety of digital files exist depicting Canada's drainage area network. These files have been digitized by various federal organizations (e.g. EnvCan, StatsCan, NRCan) from various conventional sources over the past twenty years. Now that a revised version of hydrography is available (National Atlas 1:1M base), it is proposed to integrate drainage area boundary information into a single national framework.

In addition to various drainage area attributes, the framework will also incorporate the locations of river and lake gauging stations and corresponding drainage areas, hydro-power generating stations, international transboundary drainage areas, and the names of hydrologic features. These named features will permit linkages to other larger-scale (regional/local) drainage frameworks.
