Land Information Ontario and CGDI enable the address geocoder service

This project will enable users to relate addresses with locations of businesses, people, and buildings. Government agencies and private-sector web developers can use these types of web services to build applications that respond to specific user queries and provide online support for decision making or analysis.

In partnership with GeoConnections, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is delivering this important web service and functionality to the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). The address geocoder will enable users to convert addresses into geographic coordinates. The geocoder service will greatly enhance Land Information Ontario (LIO)'s Web Mapping Service and Web Feature Service by adding functionality beyond the core CGDI specifications. In addition, other organizations that make geospatial information available online through the CGDI can reuse these web services, thereby adding to the rising value and popularity of CGDI-endorsed web services.
