Moraine Restoration and Stewardship System

The Moraine Restoration and Stewardship (MRS) System will help users share and analyze standards-based data from various conservation organizations on the Oak Ridges Moraine in Ontario, thereby enabling them to make informed decisions about conserving and restoring sites within this area. For example, by pooling data from multiple jurisdictions, users may discover how to restore sites affected by changing water conditions brought about by changing weather patterns and climate.

Capitalizing on the web-based Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure and its data standards, the MRS system will enable users to access and share location-based, or “geospatial” data and related information in real time from numerous distributed sources. The system will enable conservation organizations operating within the Oak Ridges Moraine to:

enter the location and related information about their stewardship and restoration projects;
analyze, report on, and summarize the database to track the success of specific restoration projects; and
take advantage of an ever-expanding knowledge base about factors that contribute to successful conservation projects.

This unique web-based system is designed to track the collective successes of the conservation community in southern Ontario. The MRS decision-support system will help the more than 50 conservation partners in southern Ontario to share, integrate, and analyze vital information about environmental restoration practices and projects. This will improve the decision-making ability of all stakeholders in the region.
