Situation Awareness Application for Coordinated Emergency Response
This project will see the development of a public safety and security geospatial information system to enable provincial authorities, in partnership with local, regional, and federal authorities, to better manage emergencies. The information system will equip provincial authorities to make informed decisions during emergencies and, in so doing, reduce the threat to people, property, and infrastructure.
This project is driven by the need for many agencies and organizations to cooperate closely during emergencies. Several departments and crown corporations have geospatial information that can be of value to these agencies and organizations, but the information is often available for internal use only. The information system developed under this project will enable emergency management groups to access the information through connections that are linked during emergencies.
Standards endorsed for the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure will help users access layers of geospatial information from existing warehouses of data in Saskatchewan, as well as from national sites such as GeoBase.ca. The benefits of this access flexibility are two-fold:
- the information is not replicated in several locations, and
- the most up-to-date information is always used, since the data comes from the primary source.
