Renewed GeoConnections

The 2010 Federal Budget announced renewed funding for the GeoConnections program. The Budget provides $11 million in funding over the next two years to continue development of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) and to provide consolidated geographic-related information to Canadians via the Internet.

Saskatoon Health Region - Comprehensive Community Information System

The purpose of the project is to develop the Comprehensive Community Information System (CCIS), which will enable the management of census data and present it spatially, to support decision making.

The CCIS will support:

  1. population health analysis and reporting,
  2. public health surveillance,
  3. infections and chronic disease surveillance,
  4. quality of life monitoring,
  5. indicator monitoring, and
  6. community planning

Various human services organizations require the ability to share various types of information between sectors and jurisdictions. Building on preliminary planning, this project will see the implementation of the new system for use among its partners.

It will be used to support decision making within the Saskatoon Health Region, the City of Saskatoon, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and Saskatoon Public Schools, as well as other various human services organizations.

The development of the Comprehensive Community Information System will incorporate:

  • the implementation of Census Data Explorer Component for discovery and analysis of census data;
  • the implementation of the Map Tool Component to present attributes and spatial data to users in map formats;
  • the integration of the Web Map Service Data Services endorsed by the CGDI

This project was funded under the Public Health community Population Health Surveillance priority area of focus.
